Registered Nurse (Memory Support/Dementia Unit)

VMCH are offering a unique opportunity to work in one of the Specialist Dementia Care units in Australia. You will be working with a very dynamic team and very closely with a small group of residents living with dementia (BPSD), their families and representatives to understand their stories and provide quality individualised nursing care and support.

This role is based at our new, purpose built Specialist Dementia Care Unit in Sunshine North. This small, 9-bed unit has been designed specifically for people living with dementia who are experiencing behavioural and psychological symptoms and are unable to reside in mainstream residential care.

About the role 
As the Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for meeting the direct care needs and preferences of our residents through a person centred approach to care. You will assess residents, develop nursing care plans and provide supervision direction to the Personal Care Assistants to ensure that delegated care is provided safely and accurately.
Working as part of a friendly team, your responsibilities will also include:
• Maintaining the environment using Dementia and Montessori principles
• Advocating for residents and promoting their dignity, culture, values, beliefs and rights 
• Participating in the implementation of Accreditation Standards to enhance resident choice and quality of living
• Liaising with residents’ family to collect information on issues which impact the resident’s emotional or physical health, and   evaluating progress towards health outcomes 
• Developing a positive professional working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team, health professionals, residents and their representatives and the local community
Skills & Experience
• Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration 
• Previous experience in supporting people living with dementia or mental health conditions, and assessing Aged Care Residents and formulating Care and Behavioural Plans 
• Understanding of and ability to ensure compliance with residential Aged Care Standards, requirements and legislation 
• Strong behavioral management skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately
• Commitment to work as part of a team and support other staff
